SEND Offering
SEND refers to children that have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities. A child with a medical condition does not automatically have SEN. In general, SEN pupils have significant learning difficulties in comparison to the majority of children of the same age or if they have a disability which prevents or hinders them from using educational facilities generally provided for children of the same age. Our SEND offering is led by Adam, our SEN Coordinator.

PECS
Pupils are taught to use PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) which helps them to learn functional communication skills.
Here are some of our Key Aims for our SEND offering:
To ensure the child has an active voice in their educational journey through observations and consultations.
To ensure our aspirations for all our children reflect high and ambitious targets in relation to each individual child.
To ensure parents have an active and key role in planning and supporting their child’s education.
To utilise early intervention, observations and reviews as key strategies in addressing the needs of young children.
We have a three tier approach to SEN as described below:

Tier1 - Universal support
This is the quality first teaching your child will receive from her/his class teacher, keyworker and nursery team and may include some very minor adaptations to match learning needs.

Tier 2 - Targeted support
It may be appropriate to consider making additional short term special educational provision to remove or reduce any obstacles to your child’s learning. This takes the form of a graduated four part approach of a) assessing your child’s needs, b) planning the most effective and appropriate intervention, c) providing this intervention and d) reviewing the impact on your child’s progress towards individual learning outcomes.

Tier 3 - Specialist support
It may be necessary to seek specialist advice and regular long term support from a specialist professional outside the school in order to plan for the best possible learning outcomes for your child. This may include educational psychology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, sensory advisory teachers and the child development service. For a very small number of pupils access to these specialists may be through a Statement of SEN or an EHC Plan.
